The United States has made it clear that the Strait of Hormuz is open to all legitimate shipping traffic and that the US military is ready to ensure freedom of navigation.

The US Central Command made this clear just hours after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the closure of the vital strait until further notice. The US Central Command said the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all ships seeking to travel legally.

The United States has said that shipping is continuing regularly through this waterway, and that US forces are deployed to maintain freedom of navigation despite aggressive actions, harassment, threats, and arbitrariness by Iran.

The US Central Command has clarified that Iran does not have unilateral control over the Strait of Hormuz, and that the necessary routes for safe and free transportation are open.

According to US data, in the last two months, the US military has ensured the safe passage of more than 800 ships through this vital waterway, helping to transport more than 400 million barrels of crude oil.
