With the aim of reducing overcrowding at examination centers for the Indian Administrative Service (Preliminary) examination, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has established three new examination centers this year in Bhubaneswar, Kanpur, and Meerut. With the addition of these new centers, the total number of examination centers has now reached 83. According to the Commission, approximately 23,000 candidates have applied for these new centers. The Commission's Chairman, Dr. Ajay Kumar, stated that the primary objective behind this initiative is to make the examination process more accessible, inclusive, and efficient. He further noted that the Commission is also taking special care to ensure that candidates with disabilities are allotted the examination centers of their preference. This year, a total of over 819,000 applications have been received for the 'Civil Services Preliminary Examination-2026'.
