Pune (Special Correspondent): The Office of Women and Child Development is tasked with ensuring justice for victimized and abused women through various projects under its administration. However, allegations have surfaced that an official named Jamsing Girase—who currently holds the temporary charge of the Deputy Commissioner's post within this very department—has begun harassing the contractual female employees working at the 'Sakhi One Stop Centers' across the state. The memorandum submitted regarding this matter further alleges that Girase did not stop there; he is also accused of securing employment for his close relatives within the 'Hub' and 'Sakhi One Stop Center' projects. Furthermore, the memorandum—addressed to Aditi Tatkare, the Minister of the concerned department—reveals instances where female employees, who have been working at various Sakhi One Stop Centers across the state for six to eight years, have been terminated from their services. The memorandum demands immediate action against Girase, accusing him of sidelining the Commissioner's authority to serve his own vested interests.
The Office of the Commissioner of Women and Child Development (located in Pune), under the Department of Women and Child Development, implements various schemes designed to assist needy and distressed women. In accordance with directives from the Central Government, numerous female employees have been engaged on a contractual basis to facilitate the execution of these schemes. For the past eight to nine years, many needy and single women have been working diligently on these various projects. However, allegations are now being leveled that—despite there being absolutely no complaints against them—these women are being deliberately terminated from their jobs under flimsy pretexts. For the past few months, Jamsing Girase has been holding the temporary charge of the Deputy Commissioner's post at the Women and Child Development Commissionerate in Pune. The memorandum asserts that, despite lacking the requisite authority inherent to the substantive post, he has embarked on a systematic campaign of injustice against these women. His conduct has created an atmosphere of deep resentment and fear among female employees across the entire state. Furthermore, despite maternity leave being a fundamental right for female employees, Girase has allegedly gone so far as to directly terminate women from their services simply because they requested to avail themselves of their maternity leave entitlements. In their complaints, the women have alleged that they were threatened with dismissal if they did not report back to work within one month of commencing their maternity leave. Maternity leave is a natural right of women. However, the fear induced by this officer is having an adverse impact on their health as well as on their unborn children. There is a growing demand to immediately relieve Officer Girase—who is subjecting women to such cruel treatment—of his additional charge of the Women's Development Department and to initiate disciplinary action against him. In this regard, several women have also filed a petition in the High Court. Numerous complaints regarding Girase have been submitted to the Chief Minister's Office. However, sources have revealed the shocking information that a corrupt official within Minister Tatkare's office is preventing Girase from being relieved of his additional charge of the Women's Development Department. Through a memorandum, a demand has been made for Minister Aditi Tatkare to take immediate cognizance of this matter and to forthwith withdraw the temporary charge of the Women's Development Department currently held by Officer Girase. The memorandum also raises the question of when the Minister's office will finally rein in this situation, given that the very department dedicated to serving victimized women has itself fallen victim to the harassment perpetrated by a male officer.
