The Supreme Court has expressed concern regarding the recurring irregularities in the conduct of the NEET examination. The Court observed with regret that the National Testing Agency (NTA) has failed to learn any lessons from previous controversies involving paper leaks. In response to a petition seeking the replacement of the NTA with an autonomous body for conducting medical entrance examinations, a bench comprising Justice P.S. Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe has sought responses from the Central Government, the National Testing Agency, and the CBI.

The Court has also directed that an affidavit be submitted by this coming Thursday regarding compliance with the recommendations made by the committee—headed by former ISRO Chairman K. Radhakrishnan—which was constituted last year to suggest improvements in the agency's functioning. The petition asserts that the fundamental rights of 2.2 million students have been infringed upon due to these frequent instances of paper leaks. Furthermore, the petition proposes the establishment of a high-level oversight committee, headed by a retired Supreme Court Judge, to supervise future examinations. The NEET-UG examination held on May 3 has been cancelled following the paper leak controversy.
