Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated in the Legislative Assembly today, during the Question Hour, that once the Central Government approves the Maharashtra Freedom of Religion Bill 2026, the path will be cleared for strict legal action against malpractices such as religious conversion. He was responding to a starred question raised by Sudhir Mungantiwar.

He noted that licenses under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act are revoked if foreign donations are utilized for religious conversion or other illegal activities. He added that the recently approved anti-conversion law would enable stricter action against incidents of forced religious conversion.

The Chief Minister further stated that measures would be taken to curb hired goons and criminal gangs—such as the Bishnoi gang—that issue threats and demand extortion while operating from abroad or from various states within the country.
