Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has inaugurated the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, to improve connectivity between the two major cities and provide faster access to several destinations through the Ring Road network.

Developed by the National Highways Authority of India, the 63-km, six-lane, access-controlled expressway is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities from nearly 3 hours to just 35–45 minutes.

It includes around 45 km of greenfield alignment and an 18-km elevated section.

The expressway will further enhance travel links to cities such as Ayodhya, Bareilly, Sitapur, and Hardoi from Lucknow. Future connectivity through Kanpur’s Ring Road is expected to further link the route with major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Prayagraj, Bundelkhand, and Etawah.

The corridor is equipped with modern Intelligent Traffic Management Systems, including PTZ cameras, speed radars, emergency call boxes, incident detection systems, and variable message signs to enhance commuter safety and traffic management

The project aims to support faster travel, safer transportation, industrial development, and economic growth in the region.
