Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the 'Agricola Medal 2026'; this medal represents the highest honor bestowed by the 'Food and Agriculture Organization' (FAO). The award was presented by FAO Director-General Dr. Qu Dongyu during a ceremony held in the historic 'Plenary Hall' at the FAO headquarters in Rome.

While congratulating Prime Minister Modi, the FAO Director-General noted that this honor was conferred in recognition of his contributions and his unwavering commitment to the welfare of all people. Furthermore, he was honored for the significant schemes initiated to boost agricultural productivity; the efforts undertaken to strengthen food security and improve farmers' welfare; and the support he has extended to the FAO's core objectives in the fight against hunger and poverty.

He also lauded India's various food and agriculture initiatives. These include financial inclusion; a food-based social security system covering 800 million people in the post-COVID-19 era; direct income support provided to over 11 million farmers; the encouragement given to regenerative and natural farming; as well as the efforts made to promote Millets on a global stage.

The FAO chief also commended India's 'Digital Public Infrastructure' initiative. He described this initiative as a 'transformative model' for developing nations, one that has helped lift millions of people out of poverty.
