A new roadmap for the next ten years has been prepared to build a new civil aviation ecosystem in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will shortly launch the next phase of the UDAN scheme from Jodhpur. The scheme aims to provide subsidised air travel to the common man.

Speaking to DD India, Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha said the UDAN scheme, launched in 2016, was the first initiative of its kind anywhere in the world. He said the scheme has evolved over the years, with modifications and upgrades made based on changing requirements, calling it a transformational initiative.

He said the next phase marks the beginning of a 10-year UDAN programme. Under the new phase, 120 more destinations will be added, enabling nearly four crore passengers to benefit from the scheme.

The Secretary said Jodhpur is one of Rajasthan's most important centres, with significant passenger demand and airline operations. He said while the existing terminal continues to function, a larger terminal with modern amenities was needed to meet the growing demand and aspirations of passengers.
