Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the country's first hydrogen-powered train tomorrow. The Prime Minister will be on a tour of Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab tomorrow and will flag off the hydrogen train running between Jind and Sonipat from Jind railway station in Haryana at around 11 am.

This is considered a significant step towards adopting a clean, green and sustainable transport system in the railway sector. Designed and developed in India, this train is based on indigenous technology and demonstrates the country's growing capabilities in the field of advanced railway engineering. With the introduction of this train, India will be included in the list of a few countries that have operational hydrogen-powered trains.

This train is based on hydrogen fuel cell technology. In this technology, the train gets energy by converting hydrogen into electricity. In this process, water vapor is released as a by-product, so carbon emissions remain zero during the operation of the train.

Compared to diesel-powered trains, hydrogen trains reduce smoke pollution. They also help reduce dependence on fossil fuels and their imports. Unlike conventional electric trains, these trains do not require large infrastructure for continuous overhead power supply. Therefore, this transport system can be more useful even in remote areas.

The use of green hydrogen will help reduce dependence on electricity from fossil fuel-based thermal power plants. In addition, these trains run relatively quietly, thereby reducing noise pollution.

This ten-coach hydrogen train is one of the longest hydrogen-powered passenger trains ever developed. It will be a significant milestone in India's journey towards clean energy, indigenous technology and a sustainable transport system.
