In the backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the Central Government has notified new rates of Special Additional Excise Duty on exports of petroleum products. These new rates have come into effect from today.

According to the new rates, a special additional excise duty of Rs 2.50 per liter will be levied on the export of petrol, Rs 15.50 per liter on the export of diesel, and Rs 14.50 per liter on the export of aviation turbine fuel.

The Central Government reviews the developments in the international market, as well as the prices of crude oil and petroleum products, every fortnight. Accordingly, these charges are changed as required.

The government has clarified that this decision has been taken with the aim of maintaining adequate stock and availability of petroleum products in the country.

Meanwhile, there has been no change in excise duty on petrol and diesel for general consumers in the domestic market. Therefore, petrol and diesel will continue to be available to consumers at the current prices at petrol pumps.
