The monsoon session of Parliament ended today and the proceedings of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned indefinitely.

In this session, which began on July 20, a total of 12 bills were passed by both houses; however, the ongoing clashes between the government and the opposition led to frequent disruptions and protests.

The Lok Sabha proceedings began today with the singing of 'Vande Mataram' and then the House was adjourned indefinitely. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were also present in the House on the last day of the session.

Opposition parties raised slogans in the House on various issues, including the alleged theft of donations from the Ram temple and the police action against students protesting in Delhi against the leak of the NEET exam question paper.

The government passed 12 bills in this session. These included the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Procedures) Amendment Bill, the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, the Bill to increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court, the MSME Amendment Bill and the Tribunals Amendment Bill, 2026.

The government said it was ready to discuss all issues, while the opposition accused the government of shirk- ing responsibility. Home Minister Amit Shah had proposed a discussion the previous day, but the deadlock in the House continued.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the efficiency of the Rajya Sabha was recorded at 39 per cent and that of the Lok Sabha at 19 per cent during the monsoon session. He noted that the session was quite productive in terms of legislative work with a total of 12 bills being passed.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha today passed the 'Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026'. Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy introduced the bill in the House for discussion and approval.

The Bill seeks to amend the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957. The Bill aims to make the mining sector more efficient and investment-friendly, and to meet the growing demand for important minerals. The Bill includes provisions to simplify and expedite the process of exploration and leases of important minerals, and to encourage private investment in the mining sector.

After the bill was passed, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned indefinitely. Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan expressed deep concern over the disruptions during the session.

He expressed the hope that in the upcoming session, members will keep these things in mind and uphold the dignity of the House, which will further strengthen the country's democratic system.
