India has achieved a significant milestone in the sport of orienteering by becoming a permanent member of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF). The member nations unanimously approved India's provisional membership at the 33rd IOF General Assembly held during the 2026 World Orienteering Championships in Genoa, Italy.

With this, the Orienteering Sports Federation of India has formally become part of the global sports governance system. The Indian delegation was led by the President of the Orienteering Sports Federation, Gaurav Singh Dhyan Chand.

During the event, OSF (India) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SportIdent, the official technical partner of the IOF. The agreement will play a key role in providing technical support, training and promoting the expansion of the sport of orienteering for national competitions in India.
