Rising tensions between the US and Iran are starting to affect the international crude oil market. The ongoing conflict in West Asia and fears of disruption to oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz led to a sharp increase in crude oil prices on Monday.

Brent crude prices rose more than 2 percent to above $90 a barrel. Brent futures rose $2.09 (or 2.37 percent) to $90.19 a barrel; their highest level since June 11.
