Water levels are rising in rivers and property has been damaged in rural areas of Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram due to heavy rainfall in parts of North Kerala.

Kozhikode, Wayanad and Malappuram districts declared a holiday for all educational institutions after the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert due to heavy rain and adverse weather.

In Kozhikode, the holiday applies to schools, madrasas, tuition centres, anganwadis and higher educational institutions, including professional colleges, amid heavy rain and strong winds. However, university and PSC examinations will be conducted as scheduled.

Kerala recorded heavy rainfall of 7–11 cm and isolated very heavy showers of 12–20 cm on July 8, with more heavy rain expected on July 9.

The IMD issued an orange alert for 6 districts - Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur and Kasaragod, and a yellow alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam.

5 deaths have been confirmed in the landslides in Wayanad.
