A major accident occurred this morning in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir when a passenger bus plunged into a gorge. Local officials have reported that approximately 21 people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in this accident.

The mishap took place around 10:00 AM near Kagote village in the Ramnagar area, when the driver lost control of the bus while negotiating a turn.

Following the accident, local residents were the first to reach the scene; they immediately initiated rescue operations and helped extricate the injured. Subsequently, police and emergency response teams took charge of the relief efforts.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their condolences regarding this accident. In a message shared via social media, the Prime Minister announced that financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each would be provided from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the next of kin of those who perished in this unfortunate incident, while the injured would receive ₹50,000 each.
