The first floodwater discharge of this year has begun from Hirakud reservoir. In the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Parvathi Parida, four gates were first opened at 11:15 am to discharge floodwater.

Later, six more gates were opened, so now the floodwater discharge is continuing through a total of 10 gates. Out of which, seven gates have been opened on the left side and three on the right side.

Chief Engineer Pratap Chandra Chowdhury said that this floodwater will reach Mundli in 40 hours. As of 11 am, the water level of the Hirakud reservoir was 614.93 feet, and 1 lakh 41 thousand cusecs of water is entering every second.
