Due to the heavy rains in Pune city and its surroundings for the last three days, the water level in Khadakwasla Dam has increased rapidly. Due to this, the water release from the dam into the Mutha riverbed has been increased, and the administration has become alert as water has entered some low-lying areas of the riverbank.

According to the Khadakwasla Irrigation Department, due to heavy rainfall in the catchment area of the dam, water was released from the dam's spillway into the Mutha river at a rate of 22,880 cusecs on Tuesday morning. The department has expressed the possibility of the release increasing or decreasing depending on the amount of rainfall.

After the release of water from the dam, water is reported to have entered some houses in Rajput Slum, Pulachiwadi, Ekta Nagri, Nimbaj Nagar, Shivne and Bhimnagar areas. Water also entered a housing society in Ekta Nagri, causing citizens to run away.

Mayor Manjusha Nagpure visited the riverside areas since early morning to assess the situation. She directed the municipal administration to immediately initiate relief work in the affected areas and take necessary measures.

The mayor has appealed to citizens living along the riverbanks to take special precautions, not to leave their homes except for essential work, and to contact the administration immediately if they need help.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department has advised citizens not to enter the riverbed and to move animals and other materials on the riverbank to a safe place. Citizens in low-lying areas have been alerted and the administration is monitoring the situation.
