Although the people of Assam are slowly recovering from the devastating floods, the flood situation in the state is still critical. Normal life has been severely disrupted, especially in the districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat in upper Assam. Relief and rescue operations are underway in the flood-affected areas, and it is likely to take some time for the situation to return to normal.

According to the data of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority on August 7, the Dhansiri river is still flowing above the danger level in Numligarh and Golaghat areas, while the Kusiara river is still flowing above the danger level in Shribhoomi. Due to this, there is an atmosphere of fear among the residents along the river banks.

Meanwhile, another body was found in Charaideo district on Friday, taking the death toll in the state due to floods this year to 97.

Currently, flood situation persists in 13 districts of the state. The districts affected by flood are Sivasagar, Golaghat, Nagaon, Hojai, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Darrang, Biswanath, Kamrup Metro, Lakhimpur, Udalguri, Jorhat and Charaideo.

464 villages in 33 revenue circles of these 13 districts have been affected by the floods. About 1 lakh 55 thousand 849 citizens are still under the influence of floods, while 10 thousand 748 integer 64 hectares of agricultural land has been submerged.

The state government has set up a total of 73 facilities for the flood victims, including 55 relief camps and 18 relief distribution centers. 10,326 citizens have taken shelter in the relief camps. While 6,881 citizens living outside the camps are being provided assistance through the relief distribution centers.

47,879 animals have been affected by the floods. This includes 22,846 large animals, 18,083 small animals and 6,950 poultry.

The damage to houses is also huge. 122 kutcha houses have been completely destroyed due to the flood waters. This includes 120 houses in Sivasagar and two in Dhemaji. Four pucca houses in Sivasagar have also been completely damaged.

The number of partially damaged kutcha houses is 268, out of which 216 are in Sivasagar, 50 in Darrang and two in Dhemaji. 76 pucca houses have been partially damaged in Sivasagar. 213 livestock sheds have also been damaged in the same district.

SDRF, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army, Paramilitary Forces, Air Force, Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Local Administration, Civil Defence Force and trained volunteers have participated in the relief and rescue operations.

The state government deployed 219 medical teams in the flood-affected areas on Friday. Eight boats were also deployed for relief work. Through these boats, 112 flood-affected citizens were shifted to safer places.

The state government is also distributing essential commodities to the flood-affected citizens. This includes 121 integer 098 quintals of rice, 22 integer 413 quintals of pulses, 6 integer 7329 quintals of salt and 477 integer 37 liters of mustard oil.
