Facebook, the largest platform in the social media sector, has suddenly gone down globally today (Sunday, July 19, 2026). Millions of users around the world are facing immense difficulties in opening their Facebook accounts and loading their feeds.

What exactly is the problem?

Desktop version down: Outage tracking website Downdetector has been hit with a sudden flood of complaints, mainly affecting desktop users who use Facebook on computers or laptops.

Error message appearing on screen: When users are trying to log in, a message is being displayed on their screen saying "Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue...".

Instagram also hit: Along with Facebook and Messenger, some users have also reported that their feed is not loading when using another Meta-owned app, Instagram.

Twitter (X) memes galore: Netizens have rushed straight to 'X' (Twitter) after Facebook went down suddenly, with the hashtag #FacebookDown trending at the top globally. Meta has yet to provide an official explanation as to the main reason for the outage or when it will be fixed.
