Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has emphasized the expansion and implementation of technology-based safety systems to further strengthen security within railway services. He was speaking yesterday in New Delhi during a high-level security review meeting held with zonal officials.

During the meeting, it was noted that preliminary investigations into various incidents—including recent fire outbreaks on trains—have indicated the involvement of anti-social elements. The railway administration has taken serious cognizance of these incidents, and it was clarified that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has initiated a thorough investigation into these matters. It was also highlighted during the meeting that, in several instances, major accidents were averted due to prompt and proactive action taken by the Railway Department.

Special emphasis was placed during the meeting on strengthening cyber security, updating the technical standards for camera surveillance systems, and ensuring the more effective utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based surveillance and monitoring mechanisms.

The meeting also focused on enhancing mutual coordination between the RPF and the Government Railway Police (GRP) by strengthening their information-sharing mechanisms, with the aim of making railway security management more effective.

The Railway Department has appealed to passengers to remain alert and vigilant while traveling, and to report any information regarding anti-social elements targeting the railways—or any suspicious activities—to the helpline number 139.
