Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali arrived in New Delhi on Friday, September 11, 2026, to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit. The visit underscores the growing momentum in bilateral relations between Addis Ababa and New Delhi following Ethiopia's induction into the BRICS architecture:

* Strategic South-South Cooperation: Representing key economies in the Horn of Africa and South Asia, India and Ethiopia continue to coordinate across international forums, advocating for equitable representation of emerging markets and developing countries in global governance institutions. * Economic and Trade Trajectory: As part of the expanded BRICS bloc—accounting for approximately 49.5 percent of the global population, 40 percent of global GDP, and 26 percent of international trade—both countries are focusing on supply chain diversification, sustainable agricultural investments, digital public infrastructure, and local-currency transaction systems. * Summit Agendas: During the high-level plenary deliberations on September 12 and 13, discussions will center on trade logistics, technology transfer, energy security, and institutional funding mechanisms via the New Development Bank.

Prime Minister Abiy joins a distinguished assembly of world leaders who have arrived in the national capital, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
