Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the 11th convocation ceremony of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) in Lucknow as the chief guest on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Addressing the graduating students, academics, and distinguished guests, the Defence Minister emphasized that true education extends far beyond obtaining academic degrees, asserting that its core purpose is to foster strong character, ethical values, and moral integrity. The event was also attended by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak alongside senior university administrators and faculty members.

During the ceremony, a total of 8,551 students across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral streams were formally conferred their degrees. In his convocation address, Rajnath Singh inspired the young graduates by stating that achieving true greatness in life requires broad thinking, humility, and a generous heart. He urged the youth to leverage their education not just for personal career goals, but as a driving force for societal welfare, economic progress, and nation-building.

'Make in India' and India's Rising Global Standing

Highlighting India's ongoing transformation across strategic sectors, the Defence Minister underlined that the driving force behind the national 'Make in India' movement is an unshakeable belief in the country's collective potential—'Believe in India'. He noted that India is making monumental strides in space exploration, technological innovation, defense manufacturing, and startup ecosystems.

Singh further asserted that India's geopolitical posture has undergone a fundamental shift on the world stage. He stated that the global community now listens to India with immense respect, emphasizing that India has transitioned from being a passive follower of international rules to a decisive power that actively shapes global agendas and governance frameworks.

Role of Educational Institutions in Shaping National Future

Reiterating the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Defence Minister encouraged the university community to continue expanding opportunities for inclusive and value-based education. He commended BBAU for its commitment to academic excellence and social integration.

Concluding his address, Rajnath Singh called upon the graduating scholars to embrace innovation, maintain moral courage, and contribute actively toward building a self-reliant and technologically advanced India as the nation marches forward on its growth trajectory.
