The court has delivered a significant ruling regarding the proposed felling of trees for the service road construction project on National Highway 161, which passes through Washim city. The court has issued a stay on the tree felling until further orders.

The Municipal Council had granted permission to cut down 109 trees for this ongoing road project within the city. However, social activist Sagar Kokas filed a petition in the Washim Court challenging this tree felling, citing its environmental significance.

A hearing on this petition was held yesterday. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court imposed a temporary injunction on the tree felling, granting a stay until further orders are issued.

This decision has brought immense relief to environmental enthusiasts, and hopes are being expressed that the city's green cover will be preserved. Meanwhile, the next hearing for this case is scheduled for May 7, at which time greater clarity regarding the final verdict is expected.
