The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) announced on Monday, August 24, 2026, that it will hold a protest march from India Gate to the New Delhi Police Headquarters on September 5. The decision was finalized during a meeting of the CJP National Working Committee to address the Union Government's alleged failure to honor commitments made to student representatives on July 25. The agitation in July, which stemmed from issues related to the NEET-UG examination framework, was called off following a joint press conference with central ministers after assurances were given regarding the quashing of police cases filed against student protesters and compensation for affected families.
Addressing the media following the national committee meeting, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das asserted that public spaces like India Gate belong to the citizens of the country and have historically served as sites for peaceful civic expression. Das accused the central administration of employing delay tactics, hiding behind procedural technicalities, and failing to provide a clear timeline for withdrawing FIRs registered against young demonstrators across various states during the previous agitation.
Organizers Detail Plan for September 5 Demonstration
According to the statement issued by the CJP, the scheduled march on September 5—coinciding with Teachers' Day—will be led by the families of deceased NEET aspirants alongside individuals who faced alleged police action during the July 20 'Sansad Chalao' march. Student organizations, youth groups, and young professionals from across the country are expected to converge at India Gate before proceeding along the designated route toward the Police Headquarters.
The CJP highlighted that during Supreme Court proceedings on August 18, the Union Government was urged to submit a compiled list of nationwide FIRs to facilitate a unified quashing process. However, the party alleged that the government has resisted taking concrete steps, forcing student leaders to resume democratic demonstrations to protect the interests of affected youth.
Administrative and Political Context
The renewal of protest plans comes after weeks of discussions between student representatives and government officials. While the initial suspension of the agitation was viewed as a breakthrough following high-level ministerial engagement, CJP leadership emphasized that good faith cannot be treated as weakness.
Law enforcement authorities in New Delhi have been briefed on the announced march parameters. Security arrangements around the Central Vista, India Gate, and the New Delhi Police Headquarters are expected to be deployed to manage traffic flow and ensure public order during the planned demonstration.
