The central government has clarified that the claim being made on social media that ethanol-blended petrol causes damage to the fuel tanks of vehicles or causes the fuel to separate and form layers is completely false and baseless. The Fact Check Department of the Press Information Bureau, i.e. PIB, has refuted this claim and appealed to the citizens not to believe the rumours.

According to an official clarification given by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the E-20 petrol supplied by oil marketing companies is manufactured as per all the quality and safety norms set by the Bureau of Indian Standards. Therefore, the ministry has clarified that there is no reason to have any doubts about the quality of this fuel.

The ministry said that ethanol and petrol are completely miscible. In fuel manufactured as per the prescribed standards, it is not possible for these components to separate or form layers. Therefore, it has been clarified that there is no scientific basis for such claims being circulated on social media.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has appealed to motorists to rely on official information and not believe in such rumours as ethanol-blended petrol distributed in India undergoes stringent quality tests at various stages before reaching the consumers.
