Kota, May 21: The city's star boxer, Arundhati Choudhary, has been selected for the Indian boxing squad for the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games. These games are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland (United Kingdom), where Arundhati will represent India in the 70 kg weight category. With this selection, Arundhati has earned the distinction of becoming the first female boxer from Rajasthan to qualify for the Commonwealth Games. Prior to this, she had already achieved the honor of becoming the first boxer from Rajasthan to win medals at the international level, having secured podium finishes at both the Boxing World Cup and the World Championships. The national selection committee included her in the squad based on her stellar performance—specifically, the gold medal she clinched—at the recently concluded Asian Championships. Currently, Arundhati is training at the 'Sports Authority of India' (SAI) center in Patiala, where she is honing her skills using modern techniques under the guidance of foreign coaches. As part of her preparations for the Commonwealth Games, she is set to participate in an international tournament in Czechoslovakia later this month. Subsequently, towards the end of June, the Indian squad will depart for Ireland (UK) for a special three-week training camp; from there, the athletes will travel directly to Glasgow to compete in the Games. Expressing his delight over this selection, Arundhati's father—who also serves as the President of the District Boxing Association—expressed his hope that Arundhati would bring glory to the nation on foreign soil by winning a gold medal for the country.
