The death toll from the warehouse shed collapse in Kolkata's Taratala area has reached nine, while 25 people are undergoing treatment at SSKM Hospital. Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the incident, including warehouse owner Shambhunath Behera, structural engineer Kamal Samanta, supervisor Syed Mohammad Gulzar, as well as Dibakar Bhandari and Abdul Hamid.

Cases have been registered against them for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, attempted murder, and criminal conspiracy. They were arrested based on a complaint filed by the family of a deceased worker. A seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Joy-Surya Mukherjee, has been constituted to investigate the matter.

Teams from the Army, NDRF, police, and the fire department are engaged in relief and rescue operations at the accident site. Currently, the rescue operation is underway, involving the removal of debris from the western section of the site. According to rescue team sources, the mobile phones of several people trapped under the rubble are still active, and efforts are being made to track their locations using these signals. The NDRF continues to be actively involved in the relief and rescue work.
